Well folks, March Maddness is upon us! Acie Law scored 23 points, including a dozen in the final 2:25, and helped the 12th-seeded (how ironic!) Aggies upset fifth-seeded Syracuse 66-58 Thursday night in the Atlanta Regional! Acie Law scored 14 points in the final eight minutes, almost single-handily delivering Texas A&M into the second round. He finished 7-of-17 from the field and had seven rebounds and five assists.

In the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1987, the Aggies advanced to face fourth-seeded LSU on Saturday in Jacksonville. The Tigers beat Iona earlier Thursday.

According to Webster's, Expiation is making amends or reparation for wrongs; to atone; to pay the penalty of ; suffer for...This is obviously crucial for Christians to understand as we meditate on the work of Christ. I have written (in 2003) a testimony of expiation here. Feel free to use it if you have need. This is a testimony of a biblical character, but when you begin to read it, try to put yourself in his/her shoes/sandals...(let me know when you figure out who the character is...)

Also, allow the characterization to enter into your soul by applying these feelings expereinced by our character to your own life. I'd enjoy your feedback...

The Texas A&M men's basketball team will face Syracuse on Thursday, March 16 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the selection committee announced Sunday! The Aggies earned a No. 12 seed in the Atlanta regional and will travel to Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Jacksonville, Fla. for first- and second-round action. The Ags will meet 5th-seeded Syracuse in the first round on Thursday at approximately 8:40 p.m. (CST).

The berth marks A&M's seventh trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since 1987. The Aggies' best showings were trips to the Sweet Sixteen in 1969 and 1980. Other NCAA appearances in school history were 1951, 1954 and 1975.

Texas A&M enters the tournament with a 21-8 overall record. The Aggies finished 10-6 and in fourth place in the Big 12, marking its most victories in league play and highest finish in the conference since the Big 12's inception in the 1996-97 season.

I have recently revised a paper that I wrote last semester on the Sufficiency of Scripture. You can access it here. Let me know what you think. I am convinced that the Bible has so much life-giving nourishment for our souls and churches; yet we can neglect to seek it's counsel.

I think the danger of falling into a "dead orthodoxy" is of course still looming on the horizon, but that is not what this paper argues for. I am convinced that the Holy Spirit works through the Word of God to save sinners. I know that the Bible does not save us. We cannot be saved apart from God's effectual call. Amazingly, God has ordained that that call come through the foolishness of preaching!

May God save souls through the right preaching of His Word!

This is the final observation that I took from chapter 1 of 1 Thessalonians. Enjoy!

III. Healthy Churches Imitate Christ and Influence Others (Verses 6-10)

They imitated the missionaries and Christ in 2 major ways:
1st—they gladly endured persecution for the sake of the Gospel (6,7) {Jason was one example of this}
2nd—they shared the gospel with others (8)

From the beginning they functioned as a missionary church!

Verse 9—Their reputation was spreading as a people who had been greatly changed
They had turned from idols to the living God! There was an observable change!

Verse 10—the chapter ends on another note of hope:

Wait on Jesus!—this has implications for holy living...What would you do this afternoon if you knew Jesus was coming back tomorrow?

Paul connects this in his evangelism: Acts 17:31 because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead."

Hope for believers: rescued from wrath to come by Jesus!

Judgment is Sure for those who reject Christ! (Have you thought of yourself as one who rejects Christ?)
