Young, Restless and Reformed

This article, in Christianity Today is a great commentary on the upsurge of Reformed Theology in our day. I especially recommend it because of the one on one interview with Josh Harris, Senior Pastor at Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg Maryland.

May God continue to humble us and reform us to His image!

The State of Preaching Today

Perhaps it is becoming more apparent that preaching in the Church today is lacking. How many people do you run into who are unsatisfied at their church? They may give different reasons (music is old, boring, not enough activities, people aren't friendly, to small, too big…), but I submit to you their dissatisfaction is rooted in a lack of the Word of God.

God's people are starving for His Word! Al Mohler recently blogged on this topic and I recommend that you read it here. He clearly articulates the ripples that result from a non-expositional, fluffy, ear tickling pulpit ministry.

May God revive our churches and our pulpits!

Nine Marks Informational Video

Have you seen this video?

"The Atonement of Christ in the Desert"

It is remarkable to observe the sacrificial system of the Old Covenant. The people were in exile and yet God continually dwelled within their midst (Deut. 23:14).

"Since the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp to deliver you and to defeat your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy; and He must not see anything indecent among you or He will turn away from you."

The picture that is put before the people of Israel is un-mistakable. If anyone be unclean, he or she must go outside of the camp. In order to come back inside the camp, a sacrifice was required. (Hebrews 9:22--And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.)

Can you see the Gospel? Can you see the need to be holy before almighty God? Can you see the need for sacrifice? Can you see the need for Christ?

Jesus is our sacrifice! He is the Lamb of God...our spotless sacrifice that takes away our sins. He has atoned for the sins of God's people. Are you seeking to attain that righteousness in another way? Trust on Christ alone!

If you are interested in learning more about the atonement of Christ, make every effort to attend the Ligonier Conference this Saturday, in Sugar Land Texas.

All praise to the Lamb!

Busses, Theology, and the Atonement

I can remember driving busses at Texas A&M University like it was yesterday. It was the most flexible job on campus and it paid well for part-time work. It was on those old, non-air conditioned busses that I was first introduced to R.C. Sproul and Ligonier Ministries. No, R.C. was not a passenger of mine in College Station, but I listened to "Renewing Your Mind" every day, at a pivotal time in my young Christian life.

Looking back, God was so gracious to provide such a sound teacher on the radio for me. Perhaps some of my passengers were not as excited about Sproul as I was, but nevertheless, they heard Him regularly on my bus.

Now, some seven years later, I am pleased to see Ligonier coming to the Houston/Sugar Land area for their 2006 Fall Conference Series, The Cross of Christ, Redemption Accomplished. The topic of the Atonement of Christ is often overlooked and many times labeled as controversial.

"All of history revolves around this event, so we must strive to understand its significance. This fall, join Drs. R.C. Sproul and Derek W.H. Thomas as they examine Christ’s work on the cross and remind us that it is the centerpiece of God’s redemption. Beginning with the man’s need for atonement, they will discuss the identity of those Jesus came to save, look at how He ransoms us from God’s curse, and answer common questions about the meaning of the crucifixion."

I would encourage you to make every effort to attend this conference!

May God clearly reveal His mercy through the work of His perfect, spotless Lamb!
